HBA Executive Board
Catherine King, President
Hey! My name is Catherine King, a senior majoring in Business Honors and Management Information Systems, and I am serving as this year's Honors Business Association President. I have been actively involved in HBA since my freshman year. I was a member of the financial committee and academics committee my freshman and sophomore years, and was elected as the Vice President of academics last school year. I am very excited to get the opportunity to lead HBA with all seven of my amazing executive board members (who also happen to be some of my best friends) to implement new ideas and continue to run HBA as a successful, and more importantly, fun organization. My goal for HBA this year is to create an environment where every Business Honors Student feels they are part of an inclusive community of students who are passionate about the present and future of the Business Honors Program. I could not be more excited for this coming HBA year!
Nicole Chu, Executive Vice President
Hi! I am a senior majoring in Business Honors, Plan II Honors, and Management Information Systems. HBA is a second family to me, and I have been actively involved since my freshman year. I previously served as Corporate Relations VP (2014-2015) and Communications VP (2013-2014). As Executive VP, I manage alumni relations and work closely with the President to oversee HBA's internal operations. This year, I hope to increase the number of alumni events and expand the majors, industries, and graduating classes represented at these events. Outside of HBA, I am actively involved in Student Government, Management Consulting Association, and Orange Jackets; I also volunteer with SafePlace. Upon graduation, I will join McKinsey & Company as a business analyst.
Varun Bhatnagar, Corporate Relations Vice President
Hi everyone! I am in my fourth year in the Business Honors Program, while also pursuing majors in Plan II and Finance as well as a minor in Management Information Systems. Outside of HBA, I serve as the president of an international internship organization, having interned abroad in Shanghai and Singapore. I am also a co-chair of the McCombs College Tuition & Budget Advisory Committee. A couple of fun facts: I organized a national Bollywood dance competition at UT, and I work as a BHP student recruiter! I've been active in HBA since coming to UT, having been on the External Affairs Committee as a freshman (serving as the External Affairs VP junior year) and the Corporate Relations Committee as a sophomore. As Corporate Relations VP, I am the liaison between BHP students and our corporate sponsors. I look forward to connecting the BHP community to a wide variety of corporations, nonprofits, and startups this year. I am also running HBA's Buddy Program, a new mentorship program designed to strengthen ties within the BHP community.
Niraj Parekh, Financial Vice President
Hi all! I'm Niraj, and I'm a senior from Plano, Texas majoring in BHP, Finance, Economics, and minoring in French. As HBA's Financial VP, I am in charge of handling the organization's accounts, getting awesome FREE food for our general meetings, and planning the annual Company Field Trip. I've been involved with HBA since my freshman year - I served in the financial committee for two years followed by a year on academics committee. I'm also involved in University Securities Investment Team (USIT) and BHP Ethics Board and enjoy competing in the occasional case competition.
Rachel Diebner, External Relations Vice President
Hi there! My name is Rachel Diebner, and I'm a sophomore in BHP and Plan II. When I'm not in class, I enjoy volunteering with Chickadees Service Society, hiking, and reading. I joined HBA's Alumni Relations Committee as a freshman and absolutely fell in love with the organization and its members. This year, I'm honored to serve as HBA's External Affairs VP, where I am responsible for organizing philanthropy opportunities, connecting HBA with other McCombs organizations, and generally promoting service and citizenship in our community. I'm especially excited to introduce more everyday service opportunities, such as recycling at general meetings and one-minute service projects, so that all members — regardless of their time commitments — are able to participate in philanthropy. I can't wait to get to know all of HBA's members better this year, so if you see me around campus, don't hesitate to stop and say hello!
Katie Stephens, Academics Vice President
Hi! My name is Katie, and I am the VP of Academics for this wonderful organization! I'm a junior BHP and supply chain management major. I am also involved in Texas Sweethearts and the BSM. I love running, hiking, paddle boarding, eating, watching movies, and hanging out my BHPeeps. I have been involved with HBA since my freshman year, and last year I was on Academic committee. As Academics VP, I am in charge of all things involving professors (i.e. Dinners with a Professor, Lunches with a Professor, Professors Have Interests Too) This year I hope to increase the number of people allowed at each event, and I am very excited to start doing coffee chats with professors!
Ben Carver, Social Vice President
Welcome to the Honors Business Association! My name’s Ben, and I’m a junior from Dallas, TX dual-majoring in BHP and MIS. I spent my first two years serving on HBA’s Social Committee before eventually transitioning to the committee’s VP role. As Social VP, I have the pleasure of supervising or directly planning all of the various social events HBA organizes to promote BHP community, including HBA lunch buddies, HBA intramural sports teams, and the end-of-semester formals. I also serve BHP as a Peer Mentor, helping incoming BHP freshmen transition into life at McCombs and UT, and I enjoy breaking ankles (usually my own) playing IM basketball.
Jamie Rodriguez, Communications Vice President
Hello! My name's Jamie, and I'm a sophomore from Austin majoring in BHP and Plan II. As Communications VP, I am in charge of updating the HBA website, all of our social media, and sending out the weekly newsletter. Additionally, my committee members and I will be photographing all HBA events throughout the year and posting them on the HBA blog and our various social media accounts for your viewing pleasure. I spent last year as a communications committee member and a proud member of the HBA softball team, and I am incredibly excited to be a part of the executive board this year. Outside of HBA, I also write for the Daily Texan sports section and enjoy skateboarding around campus.
